Can anyone update us on the status of the injured rider?
Guys and gals I had a great time watching you all suffer.

Saw Alison this morning. Got treated at UMC Saturday night. She has a significant cut from over her eye down here right cheek that was sewn up. Right side swollen and she has a nice shiner. In a good bit of discomfort.

wishing her a full and speedy recovery, and admiring her spirit, I heard that she was never a whiner and kept up her spirits throughout the ordeal.

I met Allison right before she took her first lap in the daylight...she was so happy and adventurous, hope she gets back in the saddle soon.

Thanks for the concern. Alison was a real trouper. Never shed a tear until she started to feel sorry for herself Sunday at breakfast. I would like to express a special thanks to Mike who risked giving up his team's first place standing by walking with Alison for two miles to reach check point 3. Also a special thanks to John and his son at check point 3 who looked after her until she was rescued by Bryan and an EMT (sorry forgot his name).

The race itself was pretty miserable because of the trail conditions but it was fun nonetheless. One of the things I have found most appealing about mountain biking is the people who ride. It seems to represent an amazing mix of cultures with a mutual bond on the bike. There is a socialbility that permeates the sport beyond typical southern friendliness.

Next year? Well maybe but only if it has not rained for weeks before the race.

That was our very own Andrew from Hattiesburg. He definitely was in the right place at the right time.

Thanks to all who have asked about me after the "best catastrophic wreck" of the race. I am fine - my face is rather swollen and I have the best shiner I have seen in a long time. It's too bad that halloween is not this weekend - I could really scare some folks with this look!!

Thanks to everybody who helped Staurday evening but a particular thank you to Mike Lew who stopped to help me. He was so calm and reassuring and fashioned a better turban around my head than Osama Bin Laden could ever hope to have. He then escorted me out of the woods jeopardizing his team's first place position. Amazingly they went on to win - these guys can really ride!!

This was my first mountain bike race. The first lap was fun and challenging but I realized early on in my second lap that I was way out of my league. I'll have to think long and hard about doing this race again but I do hope to be back on the bike soon.

Here's a picture of my face Sunday morning

Alison,

I am glad you are OK. I have experience with this kind of riding and racing, but called it a day at 5 pm because I didn't want to get hurt. The racing conditions were extreme, and you probably wouldn't have wrecked if the trail were dry. Get well soon! :D
