Excellent Brian!

I'm really happy, but surprised. Why did you decide to do the race again? I thought last year was going to be your last.

..and I really felt that way in the days and weeks afterwards.

It means alot to me when people say how much they enjoy the race. Other than one particular hour on that Sunday morning, all the races have been a blast to run. I guess I just can't call it quits just yet. I'm gonna give "them" (whoever they may be) a fight before that happens!

That being said, the '07 24HOCS may be different than in previous years. One good difference is I've gotten some help in the early planning stages. One obstacle to overcome is how we're going to conduct the race and maximize the participants' fun while still completely following all the rules and regulations of the park and trails. We're starting the conversation with the Forest Service early to give everyone time to work through the issues. Everyone needs to cross their fingers that we can quickly come to a good compromise.

Nice job on setting up 24 hours!! We have sent a few guys out in the past & they have all had a blast. Even the 24hours of rain a couple years back.

You hit the nail on the head when you stated positive feedback from participants is soooo important in giving you the incentive to put together another event. I've organized & paritcipated a few road raceing events, centurys & MTB. All constructive remarks & feedback is appreciated.

VOLUNTEERS ARE NICE TOO!!

Brian,

What if we used the group campground loop as the transition area? Upon leaving the transition area, we could ride down that steep paved road down by the bathhouse and lake. From there, we could access the trail via that really steep section across the lake that rises up to meet the Tally look near where the trail cuts off going to Mill Branch.

Yep. Right before the last race in the SCRCS series.

Just wanted to give an update:

Talks with the Forest Service went well and we're almost at the point of finalizing the permit process. Once that is done we'll flip the switch on the advertising machine :)

To remind everyone the dates are the 3rd and 4th of November. Online registration will be available via Active.com.

As always, volunteers are needed. I've gotten a great response from people wanting to help out, and I encourage everyone to come to the race to hang out and lend a hand. Volunteering is most critical at night. If you can help during the dark hours, please let me know!

Thanks everyone, and stay tuned!

Thanks for your interest in the race Eddie! The 24HOCS is a much smaller, homegrown event, especially when compared to the big Adrenaline races. I imagine we may see 10 total soloist and 15 teams this year. But, what we lack in size, we make up for in cheap thrills :D

The entry fees will be the same as last year:

Solo: $85.00-early/$95.00-raceday.
Team of 4 members: $60.00 per member-early/$70.00 per member-raceday.

Payouts for each place in Solo or Teams depend on the total number in each division. All of the money not needed for expenses is given out to the winners. If the numbers for this year's race are similar to last years, I'd expect the Team 1st to be ~$700, 2nd ~$500, and 3rd, at least ~$240. Solo 1st - ~$600, 2nd ~$450, 3rd - ~$250.

The rules of the race are typical for a 24 Hour event. Only one team member on the course at one time. There will be a mandatory dismount at the transition area. No more new laps after 10am on Sunday (ah-ha! the race starts at noon on Saturday and officially ends at 11am on Sunday - but is still 24 hours long!? :) ) Proper lighting and safety equipment must be used, etc.

We're only doing Teams of 4 members this year.

The course hasn't been finalized yet, but I expect it to be about 9 to 10 miles long. Previous year's have had racers completing a 9 mile loop in roughly 1 hour on average.

I don't know if you know Ron Whitcher. I believe he's from the Atlanta area as well. He did the race last year and could give some details from a participant's perspective.

If you have any other questions, feel free to post them to the forum or send me a PM or email.

Thanks!

Brian

Brian,
Sounds like a great race. It does come late in the year, so I can't commit just yet. I am quite interested though. You should promote some more over here in GA, because very few here care to race an Adrenaline race which leaves a big whole in the fall schedule.

Is there any neutral mechanical support?

Eddie O

"Neutral Support" as in out on the course? Nope..theirs plenty of moral support though :D

Soloist are allowed to set up camp and pit areas right at the transition area so you'll get plenty of mechanical help once you get back. At the transition have a bunch of common parts for everyone if someone needs them...That being said, I'd urge everyone to bring their own spares and not rely on what the race might have. It would suck to bust your SRAM deraileur and all we'd have is a bunch of Shimano stuff :D
